Job Description: Track Hoe Operator – Department: Field – Location: Apopka, FL
Southland Construction, Inc. is a general contractor providing vertical, heavy highway, and utility construction services in Florida since 1977. Southland has employed as many as 205 full time experienced people with a wide variety of talents second to none in the construction industry. We perform services for both public and private clients.
We are looking for track hoe operators to join our team. Reporting to the Foreman, the Pipe Trackhoe Operator is responsible for operating the heavy equipment around live underground utilities. Prior experience working with water lines, sanitary & storms pipes is required.
Responsibilities
Work with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe on line and grade
Ensure trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade
Responsible for placement of water, storm and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation
Follow directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading
Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule
Conduct trench work, which meets OSHA requirements
Operate Excavator/Hoe on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance
Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensure safe work procedures are followed
Follow specific instructions from supervisors or follow blueprints to dig trenches Moves levers to control tool bars, carrier, and disks
Perform routine maintenance and repair, safety inspections, and log equipment use Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut
Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on tractor, using grease gun, oil cans, and hand tools
Other duties as required
Requirements
3-5 years of experience operating a track hoe for pipe crews
Knowledge of GPS systems preferred, but not required
