Materials Manager

Essential Functions
Leads the development of long‑term sourcing strategies and manages complex commodity and supplier relationships
Defines project scopes and identifies savings opportunities
Negotiates and manages contracts and relationships with vendors
Implement policies and metrics to ensure that savings goals are realized
Works with buyers, engineers and management to identify new product needs
Identifies new vendors to meet business requirements
Manages key supplier relationships and performance
Responsible for quality control of vendor products
Develops cycle counting, physical inventory accuracy programs and establishes inventory controls
Lead and participate in problem solving and continuous improvement projects
Generates inventory reports as needed
This position reports into the Plant Manager and has direct and indirect reports
This role requires up to 10% travel weekly or bi‑weekly to support other Valmont facilities and vendors
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of business systems such as IFS or ERP and Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
Understanding of inventory management techniques including ABC analysis and reorder strategies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Analytical and problem‑solving skills for identifying and resolving issues related to material flow
Familiarity with quality control procedures ensuring materials meet required standards
Interpersonal, self‑confidence and negotiating skills for establishing contracts with suppliers and vendors
