– General Dynamics Bath Iron Works

This position is responsible for the sourcing, acquisition, and administration of very complex, high-dollar equipment as a member of the BIW Supply Chain organization. It requires a highly motivated individual with the proven ability to rapidly and accurately perform subcontracts management tasks across a wide variety of contract types, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

– Actively participate in safety initiatives and lead by example; influence and motivate the team to prioritize safety, fostering a positive safety culture.

Project Execution

– Negotiate agreement price and terms to reduce total costs and liability exposure consistent with company policies; prepare standard contract documentation (e.g., casefile memo, price analysis, negotiation plan and results) in accordance with departmental procedures; review supplier proposals and documents for compliance with FAR, DFARS, and company procedures; develop/compile solicitation documents and lead the sourcing and contracting process, including market research, proposal evaluation, source selection, and negotiations.

Training and Development

– Be a continuous and active learner; work to enhance current skills and take initiative to prepare for future roles and career growth.

Team Collaboration and Communication

– Assist and participate in cross‑departmental communications and information sharing to support organizational alignment; create strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

– Monitor and assess supplier performance and initiate corrective actions when performance does not meet contractual obligations or company expectations; evaluate effectiveness of existing strategies and make recommendations for improvement.

Supply Chain Specialist II

2–4 years of direct experience in Procurement / Supply Chain / Strategic Sourcing / Subcontract Management / Project Management or related field.

Works independently with little supervision.

Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree preferably in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain, or related field and comparable work experience.

Supply Chain Specialist III

5–7 years of direct experience in Procurement / Supply Chain / Strategic Sourcing / Subcontract Management / Project Management or related field.

Works independently with little supervision.

Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree preferably in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain, or related field and comparable work experience.

Additional Qualifications

Basic understanding of the various phases of acquisition management and project management.

Experience evaluating legal terms (liability, indemnification, warranty) and formulating negotiation strategies to mitigate risk exposure.

Financial acumen sufficient to review unique proposals against history, budgets, established rates, and market indices to determine price reasonableness and develop negotiation strategies.

Adept at using the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to articulate procurement summaries verbally and in writing.

Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize daily workloads and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to solve problems, manage schedules, and adapt to changes.

Ability to work with others in a teaming environment.

Ability to build relationships and work effectively with other departments in the organization and external resources.
