The Company ADEC’s services revolve around one mission: Helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities find informed choice and possibility. We serve more than 1,200 individuals each year through more than a dozen programs, ranging from music therapy for children to supervised group living for adults.

The Position The Communications Specialist handles communication with the public and employees on behalf of ADEC with responsibility to lead and create external and internal communications that reflects ADEC’s mission, vision, and values as well as its distribution to ADEC employees, the community, donors, individuals served and other stakeholders. Responsible for marketing and cultivating relationships with the public, local media, drive engagement on social media platforms, and content lead for ADEC’s website. Work with programming and ADEC departments to share ADEC’s special events, resources, and mission with community.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in related field, such as journalism, communications, marketing, or business.

Two to three years of experience with communication, design or brand marketing. Experience with graphic design and photography a plus.

Must have strong writing skills that focused on a marketing point of view.

Must have strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Experience with WordPress, social media scheduling tools and online content, Raiser’s Edge.

Must have strong computer, administrative and technology skills. Must be open to learning new technology as trends occur.

Strong understanding and commitment to ADEC’s mission. Must have understanding of ADEC’s programming to effectively develop communications to share with community.

Demonstrate strong leadership skills to include team building, initiative, collaboration and integrity.

Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Position requires traveling throughout Elkhart and St. Joseph counties as well as to state functions as needed.

No evidence of criminal activity involving a dependent population or any violent criminal activity.

No evidence of illegal drug use or drug abuse. Must pass drug screen.
