Base pay range
$35.19/hr - $35.19/hr
The Wyoming Police Department (WYPD) is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacant police officer position. Applicants must be MCOLES certifiable or currently certified law enforcement officers with MCOLES certifications. Out-of-state candidates are encouraged to apply and must be eligible for MCOLES Recognition of Prior Training and Experience Program. Experienced officers may qualify for lateral transfer and higher starting pay.
WYPD employs 103 sworn officers and offers specialized unit opportunities including detective bureau, K-9, tactical team, crisis negotiation, motorcycle unit, school resource officer, Kent Area Narcotics Team, tactical bike team and more.
The department is one of 12 agencies in the State of Michigan that is CALEA accredited. According to the international standard of CALEA, Wyoming meets 484 standards of professional policing. WYPD is proud to represent the best police services to the residents of the city.
Wyoming officers benefit from paid training, career advancement opportunities, a supportive team-oriented environment, and a generous benefits package including city-paid dental and vision, tuition reimbursement, longevity pay, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and 4% post‑employment health plan. Effective July 1, 2025, an 8.5% employer‑paid defined contribution retirement plan includes overtime pay and holiday overtime pay.
