Job Description The entry‑level Prevention Specialist (PS) is an educator in substance use, violence prevention, life skills and other topics. The PS plans, prepares and delivers prevention lessons/workshops to students, guardians, and other adults within and outside the school setting. The PS should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the passion to work effectively with members of diverse communities.
Essential Job Functions
Facilitates prevention curricula/programs throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Maintains records of attendance, sign‑in/out sheets, medical forms, emergency sheets, permission slips, accident/incident reports, program evaluations, and equipment inventory.
Implements the daily program by providing snack, following daily schedules, creating group activities and lesson plans.
Inspects and maintains facilities and equipment for safety purposes prior to each activity.
Informs parents and school personnel of weekly calendar of events and any other vital information.
Is responsible for the safety, accountability of students in the program.
Will obtain working knowledge of ATOD and violence prevention programs and resources offered by Preferred.
Prepares and submits timely programmatic reports to supervisor, which includes collecting and organizing data for statistical reports.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts including percentages.
Participates in trainings, meetings, activities, and events as requested.
Positively represents the Program at various functions, health fairs, meetings, etc., and assists in preparing for each.
Supports the Prevention Coalition of Monmouth County goals, objectives, and activities.
Accepts the responsibility to work beyond job description as situations arise.
Competencies
Proficient written and verbal communication.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Provides timely documentation.
Qualifications
Education: A minimum of AA/AS degree and/or one to two years related experience.
Desired, but not necessary: Certified Prevention Specialist certification/teaching certificate.
Valid Driver’s License in good standing.
Valid Driver’s license and your own vehicle with insurance (for travel to programs and events).
