Position Summary
Provides therapeutic recreation, activities, and leisure counseling for behavioral health and substance use patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Provides therapeutic recreational interventions for behavioral health and substance use populations.
Maintains compliance with all standards of JCAHO, DOH, regulatory agencies, and specialty recommendations.
Maintains Patient Safety.
Documentation of Care.
Professional Development.
Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team for treatment and discharge planning.
Facilitates recreational groups, and individualized recreation therapy. Completes accurate and timely documentation of groups and individual treatments.
Maintains inventory of recreation and unit items. Orders par levels as needed.
Assists in general unit needs.
Other responsibilities as needed by the unit.
Qualifications Minimum Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Health related field, or mental health field with recreation specialization (Required).
Preferred Education
Master’s Degree in mental health field (Preferred).
Minimum Years of Experience
Preferred: Two years clinical experience working with behavioral health and substance use populations.
License, Registry or Certification
Required: Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification within 1 year of hire. Completion of Hunterdon Health’s approved behavior management training upon hire and annually thereafter.
Preferred: Certified Therapeutic Recreative Specialist.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
Required: Clinical training shall include assessment skills and clinical interventions for a wide range of behavioral health and substance use populations, which meet accepted and current standards of care. Must have the ability to facilitate groups. Experience in Crisis Intervention. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and prioritize, works effectively in stressful situations.
Clinician demonstrates knowledge of evidence based practices in the provision of care included but not limited to: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Universal Screening for SUD.
Preferred: Knowledge of behavioral health and substance misuse disorders.
