Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural southwestern Alaska in villages with populations ranging from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and home of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers – the Kuskokwim and Yukon.
Position Summary Provides primary (acute, chronic and preventive) health care and emergency care to those seeking health services at the village clinic.
Position Qualifications
Must be a resident of the village or agree to relocate to a village for the purpose of serving as a Community Health Aide/Practitioner.
Has the ability to communicate in English and preferably the ability to speak the local language of the village.
Must be willing and able to travel to Bethel and/or other training sites to attend basic training sessions and other required trainings.
Required to participate in preventative and chronic care activities as appropriate to level of training.
Must agree to abide by CHAP policies and procedures while in training and in the village.
Able to provide year‑round coverage, including summers, and willing to provide itinerant (“float”) coverage to other YKHC villages as assigned.
Full‑time float CHA/Ps will function in the same capacity as all other CHA/Ps, serving villages on an itinerant basis as determined by the Field Supervision Coordinator.
Minimum Education: At least 18 years old, high school diploma or GED, and demonstrate reading, writing and 8th‑grade math skills as determined by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
Minimum Experience: Positive work history and nomination by the Traditional or IRA Council of the village that the applicant will serve.
License, Certification, Registration: Must attend Health Aide Sessions I–IV to become a certified CHP, and must be certified ETT or EMT. If rehired, must be certified and meet YKHC re‑entry guidelines.
Equipment/Tools/Word‑Aids: Experience with Microsoft Word and email; must be proficient with RPMS and Telehealth within 3 months of hire.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Strong mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages), language skills, and the ability to write and present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May be tasked to be a Lead Health Aide.
