Overall Purpose of the Position
The Billing/Collection representative is responsible for the patient collections process. This includes collecting payments, establishing budgets with patients, following up on patient’s outstanding balance, corresponding with insurance companies, verifying insurance eligibility, and following up on status of payment with patient/guarantor, insurance companies and/or adjustors.
Major Job Responsibilities
Works to secure payment from patient for outstanding amounts
Works with patient to create a budget or payment plan
Answers patient inquiries regarding their account
Works to reduce assigned accounts receivable in accordance with billing guidelines
Issues appeals with insurance companies
Corresponds with insurance companies and adjustors to verify status of claim
Works with outside collection agency(s) to collect delinquent accounts
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with company and HIPAA guidelines
Interacts with Sr. Billing/Collection Representative to expedite efficient and timely collections referrals
Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis and makes decisions within limits of authority
Maintains attendance standards consistent with company policy
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of physician billing and collections or medical insurance administration experience
Effective organization, math skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Courteous and professional telephone skills
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology, coursework in business office administration
Equipment & Environmental Factors
Personal computer, telephone, 10-key, copier and fax machine
Requires prolonged sitting (75%), bending, stooping and stretching for files and supplies (10%); manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and other office equipment; vision 20/20; hearing normal range for telephone contacts
Hourly Rate Starting @ $18.45; based on experience
