Program Details
Program: Legal Victim & Witness Program
Location: Astoria, NY 11102
Position: Paralegal Specialist
Part‑time: 16 hours per week
Salary: $34 per hour (no negotiation)
Work Schedule: Monday–Wednesday, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM; afternoons as needed
Responsibilities
Record work time on ADP and report attendance issues to the manager.
Open contacts and matters in CLIO and immigration program accounts; maintain daily data and notes.
Review all documents in Grammarly HANAC premium accounts before sending drafts for review.
Update caseload in Excel with service statistics.
Complete court forms for program attorney review.
Prepare client matters for submission in New York City courts and the post office.
Handle sensitive and personal information with an understanding of client confidentiality.
Maintain HIPAA regulations.
Respond to telephone and e‑mail requests and follow up with clients and coworkers.
Act as a liaison between clients and city or service departments.
Make copies of relevant material and prepare trial notebooks, affidavits, motions, claims, forms, and communications.
Attend client hearings with the program attorney.
Collaborate with HANAC staff on client matters.
Apply program assessments and elaborate safety planning when required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or program attorney.
Organize and archive documents related to completed and ongoing cases.
Track changes in the legal framework and provide timely updates.
Assist with translations from Spanish to English and other languages using a translation line.
Prepare other office assignments and reports upon attorney and management request.
Travel regularly to NYC courts, police precincts, and maintain receipts for transportation logs and reimbursements.
Apply HANAC handbook policies at all times; business attire is required Monday–Thursday. Remote work is allowed after probation, but the position is primarily onsite.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year university or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
1–2 years of experience working with legal applications and case‑management databases.
Ability to work on multiple client cases with strong time‑management skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; writing samples required.
Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and online data entry.
Strong confidentiality, program guideline adherence, and procedural compliance.
Flexible schedule availability—including evenings and weekends as needed.
Independent and collaborative work style; maintain composure in a changing, multi‑priority environment.
Knowledge of U‑Visas, VAWA, T‑Visas, Asylums, and complex immigration cases is a plus.
