Specialist Child Nutrition 2025-2026 (250002KW)
Job Overview The Specialist Child Nutrition – Personnel serves as a liaison between the Child Nutrition Department (CND), Campus Managers, employees, and various District departments. This position performs high-level business, technology, and software functions essential to the efficient and compliant operation of the Child Nutrition Department. The role actively researches and applies innovative practices related to training, orientation, time management, and work simplification to improve departmental effectiveness.
Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Personnel Administration and Compliance
Assists the Child Nutrition Department HR Business Partner with maintaining accurate, complete, and compliant personnel reports and records in accordance with labor laws and district policies.
Prepares, maintains, and updates records related to employee injury reports, leave requests, and approvals for Child Nutrition Department staff.
Maintains accurate personnel files and documentation in accordance with Records Management and Records Retention requirements.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to personnel records, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy of employee information.
Timekeeping, Leave, and Employee Support
Manages and approves Child Nutrition Department employee timecards within the district’s timekeeping system, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payroll deadlines.
Provides guidance and support to Supervisors and Managers regarding employee leave, workers’ compensation claims, and timekeeping issues.
Recruitment, Staffing, and Hiring Support
Assists with maintaining orientation, recruitment, and marketing schedules to support consistent staffing levels.
Assists with planning, preparing, and participating in hiring events and job fairs to support recruitment efforts.
Maintains the Child Nutrition Department employee database and generates staffing and personnel reports to support operational and compliance needs.
Training, Professional Development, and Reporting
Assists in preparing training materials and supporting professional development activities for departmental staff.
Tracks completion of required training and maintains documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Participates in professional development activities and engages as an active member of local, state, and national professional organizations.
Systems, Communication, and Departmental Support
Maintains a working knowledge of department web-based software systems, including troubleshooting, testing, and supporting annual system upgrades.
Provides internal and external support to the Child Nutrition Department, including assistance to Supervisors, Managers, and employees.
Communicates clearly and professionally with Managers, Directors, Administrators, staff, students, and parents.

High School diploma or GED required
Associate's degree preferred
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in business office procedures, practices and use of office equipment
Comprehensive knowledge regarding business processes with emphasis on district local, county, state and federal regulations and reporting requirements including record retention
Strong organizational skills with extremely proficient communication skills both written and verbal
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, preferred
Knowledge and experience in school food service functions, preferred
Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of word, excel, power point, web-based software and other office software; use of KRONOS or similar software, preferred
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Most tasks are performed in a sedentary work environment operating a computer keyboard for long periods of time and subject to frequent interruptions. Attributes include those required in normal everyday activities such as sitting, walking, bending, reaching or moving supplies and materials, manually or with assistance, which may weigh up to 40 pounds. Assignments involve contact with the public including irate parents, rescheduling of duties to accommodate unexpected changes and completion of tasks within strict time lines with the potential stress associated with such job responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
