A Brief Overview Responsible for submission and follow up of assigned claims.

What You Will Do

Reviews patient accounts for accuracy and completeness of charge, insurance, UB and DRG information.

Prepares and identifies portion of charges to be billed to insurance companies and those to be billed to the patient.

Submits claims via the appropriate mode of submission, i.e. teleprocessing, PC or hard copy.

Inputs all claim activity into the computer system.

Monitors the status of all outstanding claims within account assignments and follows up as needed.

Receives and answers correspondence and phone inquiries from patient, insurance companies, Medicare and other parties regarding claims, charges or billing discrepancies.

Updates financial transactions on billing folders within account assignments and maintains folders in file.

Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients and insurance companies.

Maintains patient billing files in an orderly manner.

Calculates charge prorations, payer discounts, allowances and adjustments to be posted to accounts.

Prepares daily billing activity report.

Maintains and respects confidentiality.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent - Required

Trade/Vocational School Accredited college/trade school for medical billing & coding - Required

Experience Qualifications

1-3 years of experience; must have two years of office experience with a financial background.

CRT or PC experience - Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have strong math skills and familiarity with medical terminology.

Must speak, write and read English.
