Surety is a credit business that provides financial and performance guarantees to a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, financial institutions, technology and energy. Surety bonds, for example, are important to the construction industry. They ensure that projects will be built to the appropriate specifications, and that all parties working on the project will be paid for work performed. If this has piqued your interest and curiosity, we’re looking for enthusiastic, ambitious, self‑starters with a track record of success to join C&F’s surety team. As a surety underwriting trainee, you’ll work alongside an experienced team of professionals to assist your development. The program consists of a combination of mentorship, classroom instruction, self‑study and on‑the‑job training. Our program is designed to provide you with a strong technical foundation for long‑term success. This trainee opportunity is available in our corporate headquarters in Morristown, NJ office. What You Will Do
Receive a hands‑on introduction to surety underwriting by shadowing an experienced underwriter during the review of financial data and analysis of surety accounts. Each trainee will participate in account meetings, bond form reviews, file documentation, database entries, and management meetings. Receive operations training that will give you firsthand experience with what happens to a surety bond from issuance to premium processing. Participate in underwriting and claims training events and e‑learning curriculum to enhance industry knowledge and professional skills. Engage with cross‑functional teams and business leaders throughout the insurance operation to gain exposure to all facets of the industry. Network with other trainees and early‑career individuals, including career and industry workshops, and community service opportunities, to name a few. What You Will Bring To C&F
Recent college graduate with a major in business, finance or accounting is desired but all majors will be considered with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Prior work experience, including summer or part‑time roles or internships preferred. Proven leadership qualities demonstrated through work, community service, athletics, or clubs preferred. Ability to gather and analyze data effectively. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Solid organizational, time‑management, and planning skills are essential. Experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint). A passion for learning. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance‑based variable pay programs.
