Civil Engineer (Structural) – GS‑0810‑11/12 US Army Corps of Engineers – Northwestern Division (NWD), Walla Walla District, Walla Walla, WA. Announcement Type: TARP – Direct‑Hire Authority (DHA). Position Type: Permanent.

Position Overview Engineering and Construction Division; Design Branch; Structural Design Section. The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.

Duties

Serve as technical lead for structural features of civil works projects to include hydropower, navigation, fish passage, recreation, and flood protection.

Prepare designs and perform analyses of structural components subjected to static and dynamic loads including hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, wind, snow, ice, and seismic loading.

Perform preliminary and final structural design, including indeterminate analysis, advanced computer modeling, and finite element analysis.

Prepare preliminary and final structural designs including drawings, specifications, analysis, and other necessary supporting documentation for structural designs using a diversity of materials.

Review in‑house and architect‑engineer structural designs and coordinate/assure designs conform with current design criteria.

Perform site visit inspections and ensure adequacy of structural features and compliance with existing policy and construction requirements, including reporting results.

Act as a specialist in the field of structural engineering principles and the application of data processing to resolve structural problems associated with work assignments or in support of others.

Mentor junior engineers.

Other Conditions and Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens.

Education

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, or a program that includes differential and integral calculus and courses in at least five of the seven listed areas of engineering science or physics.

Combination of Education and Experience: College‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnishes a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

Experience Minimum Experience Requirement for GS‑11: One year of specialized experience including assisting in design of structural features, assisting in development of structural engineering plans and specifications, and assisting in field inspections. For GS‑12: One year of specialized experience including designing structural features, developing plans and specifications, performing field inspections, and performing technical reviews of structural designs.

Salary Range: $98,948 – $126,186 (inclusive of locality pay or Local Market Supplement).

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses may be authorized if authorized by the selecting official.

Eligible for situational telework.

Eligible for Special Salary Rate (SSR) 0755 for GS‑0810.

Position covered under the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) Bargaining Unit.
