Store Protection Specialist

General Purpose This position is a visible presence at store entrances and exits. The Specialist mitigates theft and fraud, maintains a safe environment for associates and customers, and partners with store leadership to enforce Loss Prevention policies.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environment
Prioritizes safety and helps store leadership maintain a safe environment for both associates and customers.
Provides a prominent “command” presence with eye contact, a company‑issued vest and black attire at entrances/exits and on the sales floor.
Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
Developing Great Teams & Partnerships
Greet customers warmly, make eye contact, smile, and answer questions courteously.
Treats all customers and associates with respect and professionalism.
Engages in regular collaboration with internal and external partners, including conference calls, district meetings, and associate training.
Supports Loss Prevention initiatives and provides recognition as appropriate.
Personal and Store Brand
Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
Mitigating Theft & Fraud
Monitors entrances/exits and the sales floor for suspicious behavior that may indicate theft.
Collects theft indicators and uses internal or external intelligence to influence shortage trends.
Adheres to company policy for external theft response.
Executes company best practices to maximize productivity while minimizing steps and touches.
Minimizing Operational Shortage
Increases store awareness of effective procedures to reduce operational shortage.
Trains and educates associates on shortage reduction initiatives.
Observes and validates proper checkout procedures for customers and associates.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required
High school education or equivalent required; an AA degree is preferred.
One year of retail supervisor experience or comparable training is preferred.
One year of loss prevention/security training is preferred.
Active security guard license is preferred.
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with the store team.
Excellent customer service skills.
Proven conflict resolution ability.
Must comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations for security positions, including background screening, physical examination, fingerprinting, and drug/alcohol testing.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Must spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
Must be able to lift or lower objects greater than 25 lbs. from one level to another.
Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, or crouch as required.
Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
