Job Summary The Phlebotomist Floater works under the direction of the area supervisor to perform daily phlebotomy activities accurately and on time. They assist with coverage of client locations as required and travel frequently. The role requires professional and courteous interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel, as well as confident execution of forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
Essential Functions
Ready to travel to a client assignment within a designated region with short notice.
Greets customers appropriately and treats all customers courteously.
Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
Collects specimens according to established procedures, explains the process clearly and courteously, and reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue and contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
Completes requisitions accurately and enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer systems.
Communicates with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verifies ordered tests, and obtains accurate billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
Researches test/client information utilizing the lab computer system.
Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
Packs specimens for transport, stores samples according to required temperature, and follows specific transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Maintains required records and documentation, including daily PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
Assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail, and completes electronic data entry.
Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period and submits accurate expense and travel logs as directed by management.
Demonstrates organizational commitment and adheres to departmental and company grooming and dress code, maintaining a neat and clean appearance at all times.
Utilizes time appropriately and maintains fluctuating patient flow.
Displays courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co‑workers, promoting a harmonious and cooperative work environment.
Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating the company name and a helpful statement.
Performs duties independently and communicates pertinent information or issues to supervisor, manager, or group leader for resolution.
Contributes to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, advising Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance.
Assists with periodic inventory counts, reporting shortages and problems to group leader or supervisor as they occur.
Uses proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure patient and personal safety, exercises all laboratory safety precautions, and adheres to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
Aligns all job responsibilities with industry security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
Familiarizes with and abides by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
