Responsibilities The
Senior Underwriter
is a member of our production underwriting team. Our underwriting team works on new and renewal accounts in their targeted industries. Underwriting books of business will have accounts with varying levels of premium size and technical complexity. Accounts can range in size from $5,000 to over $1M in premium.

The role’s primary responsibility will be to manage a book of business within their assigned industries. In addition, you will contribute to our underwriting direction, evaluate individual account profitability, collaborate with our staff underwriting team on product enhancements, and analyze data with actuaries. You may also have the opportunity to contribute and explore new insurance products and new business segments as Intrepid continues to grow and evolve.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
Underwrite accounts per letter of authority - new and renewal, with minimal direction
Profitably underwrite and manage assigned book of business
Gain deep expertise in assigned industries
Utilize various underwriting tools to determine acceptable risk characteristics, accurate classifications, insurance to value, develop pricing, etc.
Demonstrates the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate cross‑departmentally
Execute underwriting strategy and follow established underwriting guidelines
Meets or exceeds Service Level Agreement deadlines with a high quality of work
Meets or exceeds performance requirements on UW File Review Audits
Viewed as an informal leader by being a go‑to resource for other members on the team
Supports Underwriting Team on projects, as assigned
Owns aspects of mentoring and training new teammates
Proven reliability and independence working on large accounts
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Underwriting experience - minimum of 5 years as a company underwriter specifically in commercial property and casualty underwriting
Has underwritten new and renewal business with success in achieving growth and profitability
Strong background using data analysis to guide underwriting philosophy and decisions
Multi‑line commercial background including Property, Liability, Automobile, Umbrella, Workers Compensation, and BOPs
Knowledge underwriting “main street” classes of business
Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication
Large account underwriting experience or line of business expertise a plus
CPCU, AU and/or other related professional designations preferred/ current progress underway
