Job Description WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Seattle, WA or Boise, ID office location. The individual will develop new clients and projects in the Healthcare sector, lead project teams, and foster client relationships. This position requires active participation throughout the project cycle, with a focus on complex healthcare environments such as hospitals, medical centers, and outpatient facilities—from design through final construction close‑out. Our engineers deliver high‑quality, high‑profile national and international healthcare projects, providing MEP design services for millions of square feet of advanced medical facilities.

Responsibilities

Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Manage client relationships and provide technical input on pursuit efforts.

Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design plans to ensure high quality, consistency with best practices, and compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Apply high‑level mechanical engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases (concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation).

Incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and design requirements that enhance owner, occupant, and end‑user experience.

Engage from project inception to completion in the design and construction of mechanical systems.

Work with clients and project teams to ensure deliverables are provided on schedule.

Drive new business through building sustainable client relationships.

Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams of engineers on mid‑level and/or multiple concurrent projects, managing budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, technical calculations, construction documentation, and regulatory analysis memos.

Prepare data and visualizations—including tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross‑sections, and other illustrations—for interpretation or presentation of complex data, findings, or analyses.

Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations to address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.

7+ years of relevant post‑education experience as a mechanical engineer focused on HVAC systems.

Professional Engineering license required.

Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, particularly in the Healthcare industry.

Known in the local design community with a network of partners and clients, including those in the Healthcare market.

Proficient with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build and design assist delivery models, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues.

Experience with project planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of renovation, new design, and construction projects.

Well‑defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and mechanical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.

Well‑developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving mechanical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Engineering.

LEED AP Certification.

At least 5+ years of Project Management experience.

Compensation Expected Salary (Colorado only): $118,000 – $175,230. This range reflects the company’s good faith estimation for the position within Colorado, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and any geographic considerations. WSP USA reserves the right to offer a different compensation amount that complies with applicable laws.
