as a Senior Species Recovery Specialist for the Road to Recovery (R2R) initiative within The Earth Commons Institute. The role focuses on accelerating the recovery of North America’s bird populations through science-driven, interdisciplinary action.

Job Overview As the R2R Recovery Team Specialist, you will serve as the principal liaison between R2R and Species Recovery Teams, facilitating the adoption of R2R’s framework to advance parties’ conservation goals. Your responsibilities include technical assistance, partnership development, fundraising, program oversight, and coordination of cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct technical support to R2R species recovery working groups.

Design and deliver webinars, virtual forums, and in-person workshops.

Develop practical tools, templates, and resources for collaborators.

Coordinate with national and international partners to strengthen and align recovery actions.

Represent R2R at meetings and forums.

Facilitate the implementation of strategies that engage the public and policymakers in evidence-based conservation.

Prepare and contribute to grant proposals, research funding applications, and donor communications.

Lead or support fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the R2R Team.

Ensure program alignment with Georgetown’s mission and funder priorities.

Contribute to reporting and accountability processes, budgets, and performance tracking.

Collaborate closely with biological and social scientists, Species Recovery Team leads, coordinators, and partner organizations.

Supervise research assistants, graduate fellows, or interns as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resource conservation, or related field (equivalent work experience will be considered).

7–10 years of relevant professional experience working with diverse partners in bird conservation or the non-profit sector.

Experience in conservation, environmental, or non-profit settings.

Demonstrated ability to mobilize diverse groups around a common cause.

Knowledge of ornithology, North American bird conservation challenges, and species recovery strategies.

Experience implementing conservation solutions.

Excellent attention to detail and multitasking skills.

Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire trust and collaboration.

Work Mode Hybrid (please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed and may be updated).

Salary Expected salary range: $75,000 - $100,000 (or $66,783.00 - $126,720.23, depending on qualifications). Compensation reflects experience, education, skills, and organizational factors.
