Overview The Global Document Specialist is responsible for producing a wide variety of documents, including complex transactional and litigation documents, using a variety of available software.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Creates, converts, formats and revises a wide variety of documents, including transactional and litigation documents, Edgar filings, correspondence, presentations, charts, graphs, timelines, Excel spreadsheets and others, using appropriate Firm software applications.
Transcribes audio files, generates comparisons; creates electronic trial notebooks, electronic closing sets and PDF portfolios; marks and generates Table of Authorities; performs defined term and cross reference checks; and handles various other word processing‑related tasks.
Carefully follows instructions and established Firm and departmental procedures.
Proofreads completed work thoroughly for accuracy.
Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive information at all times.
Secondary Duties
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Job may be performed in a typical office or remote environment, subject to business needs.
Extra hours and holiday overtime are periodically required.
Required hours are Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 1:30 am EST.
Minimum Qualification Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Three years legal word processing experience working in a law firm or legal environment required.
Special Knowledge
Strong legal word processing skills and ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and correct problem documents.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word for document automation, formatting and editing; thorough working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Outlook; proficiency in document management system (DMS) software, comparison software, and PDF conversion and editing tools.
Attributes
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to follow instructions effectively.

Qualifications
Must score 55 wpm with a 2% or less error rate on the firm’s legal typing test and 76% or higher on the firm’s legal spelling test. Must successfully complete a Word skills assessment.
The full‑time base annual salary for this position in the California, Colorado, New York and Washington D.C. markets is expected to range between $67,000 – $106,000. Please note that the actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level. The posted salary is the range Vinson & Elkins in good faith believes to be the possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York and Washington D.C. and may be modified in the future.
