Company & Job Summary We are a growing engineering and power systems organization that supports customers across a wide range of industries, from manufacturing and utilities to commercial facilities. Our focus is delivering safe, reliable, high-quality electrical distribution and control solutions. We are looking for a

Switchgear Mechanical Engineer

to join our technical team and help bring custom equipment designs from concept through production.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, creative problem-solving, and seeing their work move from design software to the shop floor. You’ll take ownership of mechanical design packages, collaborate with electrical engineers and production teams, and contribute to projects that directly impact system performance and customer success.

Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Drafting

Design low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, MCCs, sheet-metal enclosures, and mechanical assemblies.

Create, update, and release mechanical drawing packages, including detailed fabrication drawings, layout/assembly drawings, and bills of material.

Develop approval drawings and incorporate feedback from design reviews and customer comments.

Produce flat patterns, bend profiles, weldments, and sub-assembly drawings for manufacturing.

Analyze electrical bills of material and schematics to generate accurate switchgear layouts.

Prepare equipment plan, elevation, section views, lifting diagrams, and component arrangement drawings.

Ensure drawings are released on time to support production schedules.

Collaboration & Technical Support

Work closely with electrical engineers to align mechanical and electrical design requirements.

Provide technical guidance to fabrication, welding, and assembly teams during manufacturing.

Support sales and distributors by answering technical questions and contributing to high-quality customer service.

Communicate effectively across engineering, production, and purchasing to keep projects moving smoothly.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

Design enclosures and components in accordance with ANSI/NEMA standards and project specifications.

Perform sizing and bracing calculations for copper busbar systems.

Stay up to date with industry developments, materials, and manufacturing practices.

Identify opportunities to improve design quality, workflow efficiency, or manufacturability.

Follow organizational, safety, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong commitment to product integrity.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in mechanical design for electrical equipment, a strong command of CAD tools, and a practical understanding of how designs translate to fabrication and assembly. They communicate clearly, manage multiple priorities confidently, and enjoy collaborating with both engineers and shop personnel. Most importantly, they approach problem-solving with curiosity and a commitment to delivering reliable, well-designed products that stand up to real-world conditions.
