Position Summary The Database Administrator II is a critical, back‑end focused position responsible for leading the setup, configuration, and optimization of the organization's data analytics environment. The role focuses on deploying and managing Power BI gateways, configuring on‑premises and cloud‑based servers, and ensuring secure, scalable, and high‑performance data access for analytics teams. Key duties include building data pipelines and managing data warehousing, integrating disparate enterprise data sources (e.g., SQL Server, Azure, Oracle), and ensuring strict compliance with data governance, security, and privacy standards, including managing UGA IT relationships for HIPAA clearance. The specialist will also be responsible for performance tuning, optimizing data refresh schedules, and collaborating with analysts to facilitate reporting needs, including sharing dashboards outside the organization.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Certified: Power BI or Azure Administrator Associate

Experience with hybrid cloud environments and DevOps pipelines

Familiarity with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, SSRS)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Proven experience with Power BI infrastructure setup and administration.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Data Services, and Active Directory.

Experience with Power BI Premium, Gateway configuration, and licensing models.

Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and hybrid environments.

Strong background in designing and developing clearinghouses, data dashboards using data analytics and visualization accessing a wide array of data sources.

Proficient in Microsoft Power BI/Tableau based dashboard development, including DAX functions, Power Query, Power Automate, and integration with other business systems to create impactful visualizations, reports, and dashboards.

Understanding of networking, firewalls, and secure data access protocols.

Excellent problem‑solving, supervisory and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design and implement server architecture to support Power BI reporting and analytics – 40%

Build data pipelines, manage data warehousing, obtain, clean and manage data and integrate disparate data systems – 40%

Install, configure, and maintain Power BI Gateways (Enterprise and Personal) – 30%

Integrate Power BI with enterprise data sources (SQL Server, Azure, Oracle, etc.) – 30%

Share dashboards with people outside the organization and publish on publicly‑available websites – 30%

Optimize data refresh schedules and performance tuning – 10%

Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy standards – 10%

Negotiate shared data agreements and MOUs with outside agencies – 10%

Collaborate with data analysts and project stakeholders to support reporting needs – 10%

Monitor system health and troubleshoot connectivity or performance issues – 5%

Document infrastructure setup, configurations, and best practices – 5%

Manage relationships with UGA IT systems/personnel (Information Security office clearance for HIPAA and data security, UGA data center server storage) – 5%
