Who We Are The R&R Center in Pawling, NY, is a unique program dedicated to providing integrated sheltering, behavioral, and medical care for canine victims of cruelty. The R&R Center team works closely with ASPCA teams in New York City to help animals rescued in partnership with the NYPD.

What You'll Do The individual in this role is responsible for overseeing the R&R Center's team of Care & Enrichment Technicians (CETs), developing, implementing and overseeing daily monitoring processes, meticulous data collection, and ample and open communication within and between teams. The successful candidate has strong organizational and leadership skills, a positive attitude, and is a model of resilience and adaptability. The Manager, Care & Enrichment is highly collaborative, continually working with colleagues in behavior and veterinary to ensure each animal has holistic and individualized care.

Team Structure

The Manager, Care & Enrichment reports directly to the Senior Manager, Care & Enrichment and has 8-9 direct reports.

Location and Schedule

This position is an on-site role and reports to the Recovery & Rehabilitation Center in Pawling, NY.

Working hours are 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., including at least one weekend day. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Compensation Target salary range: $68,000 – $73,000 annually. The range may be adjusted based on experience, performance, and market factors.

Responsibilities

Maintain working knowledge of all daily protocols and regulatory requirements, ensuring accurate records of compliance.

Oversee cleaning, prepping of animal holding areas, enrichment, feeding, and watering to meet daily needs.

Arrange daily care and enrichment tasks to optimize workflow and efficiency.

Provide consistent floor management, supporting technicians with hands‑on guidance and assistance to maintain high‑quality care.

Assist in training and overseeing volunteers performing animal‑related tasks, communicating respect and gratitude.

Collaborate with behavior and veterinary teams to ensure open communication, excellent care, and close monitoring of every animal.

Problem‑solve with technicians, taking initiative to address day‑to‑day issues.

Give continual feedback to senior management to improve processes and minimize barriers to efficient work.

Contribute to development and refinement of daily care SOPs, representing technician interests and ensuring integration with behavior and veterinary teams.

Audit data entered by technicians daily to ensure accuracy and legal readiness.

Coordinate animal movement into and out of the shelter to minimize stress.

Perform repeated checks of holding areas, spot cleaning, feeding, watering, and enrichment, with appropriate delegation.

Lead team huddles to assess progress, identify support needs, and adjust plans.

Develop and execute strategies to keep equipment and supplies organized, located, and in good repair.

Monitor inventory of supplies, requesting replacements before depletion.

Conduct daily rounds to ensure animals are in appropriate enclosures and evaluate enclosure conditions.

Explain protocols clearly to technicians, ensuring buy‑in and correct usage.

Serve as an active floor lead, monitoring workflow and stepping in to assist as needed.

Oversee technicians’ daily cleaning, handling, enrichment, monitoring, and documentation.

Provide regular training and keep the team updated on field advances and protocols.

Assist technicians with daily care and protocol adherence.

Deliver instant, kind feedback and coaching when performance deficiencies arise.

Ensure team follows SOPs and set clear, achievable goals.

Address conflict and concerns promptly, ensuring respectful, productive conversations.

Delegate for growth, giving reports stretch opportunities.

Monitor and evaluate performance, providing coaching, feedback, and formal appraisals.

Assess staffing levels and training needs; report to senior director regularly.

Recognize team accomplishments and provide engagement opportunities.

Attend and contribute to R&R Center and ASPCA meetings.

Track and report time worked, time off, and expenses accurately.

Review time‑off requests and weekly hours for technicians.

Steward R&R Center assets responsibly.

Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or GED required; B.S. or B.A. preferred.

Minimum one year of experience leading a team.

At least two years of experience working in an animal shelter in a hands‑on role.

Fear Free Shelter Program certification (≈5 hrs) required or to be completed within 60 days of hire.

Languages

Qualifications

Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor‑vehicle history check.

Fluent in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (plus any additional tools).

Familiarity with shelter software systems or Salesforce.

Experience with Airtable or project‑management systems.

Experience with Canva or other design software.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to witness animals suffering with mental or physical issues.

Comfortable with humane euthanasia, in theory and practice.
