Residential Specialist - Mental Health (Part-Time) National Capital Treatment & Recovery—formerly Phoenix House—is a nonprofit behavioral health organization committed to supporting individuals in recovery from substance use and co‑occurring disorders. We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Residential Specialist to join our Adult Women’s Residential Treatment Program in Arlington, VA.

Position Overview:

The role is part‑time, working Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm in a structured, therapeutic setting that supports adults in early recovery. As a Residential Specialist you will maintain a safe, supportive, and substance‑free environment during overnight hours.

Compensation:

$20–$25 per hour, based on experience, education, and relevant credentials. Additional pay may be available for candidates with advanced degrees or behavioral health certifications.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor the therapeutic milieu and resident activities.

Provide a calm and professional response to client crises or emergencies.

Support clients in adhering to daily routines and program expectations.

Offer guidance in life skills and facilitate or assist with 12‑Step education.

Model healthy boundaries and maintain professionalism within the therapeutic setting.

Requirements

Education / Credentials:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Certification as a substance abuse counselor (CSAC‑A, CAC, CSAC) required within 6 months of employment.

Experience:

Minimum one year of experience working in a substance abuse treatment setting preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Knowledge of addiction treatment and the 12‑Step recovery process preferred.

Certified in First Aid and CPR; medication management a plus.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
