Position Title ACTIVITY THERAPIST / Training and Development Therapist – Part‑Time, 1st Shift. Position #TMPPT4196.
Summary To monitor training and development therapeutic programs. To plan and deliver direct services to acute psychiatric patients with an emphasis on stabilizing symptoms and enhancing functional life skills. This position is assigned to work with adult and geriatric patient populations.
Your Experience Counts Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after high school completion.
Education and experience in adapted physical education, recreational or occupational therapy, educational psychology, counseling, health‑related fields, sociology, public or private education, activity‑based programming, allied health, community service programs or related fields supporting individuals with mental illness, disabilities, or special needs.
Valid driver’s license.
Must be able to perform continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting and fine manual dexterity or coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting individuals with mental illness, disabilities, or special needs.
After‑Hire Requirements
Satisfactory completion of the New Hampshire Hospital Mental Health Worker Training Program within the first four weeks of employment.
Completion of defensive driver training within the first six months of employment and renewal every three years.
Responsibilities
Develop, schedule, and implement individualized activity treatment programs in the areas of social, leisure, physical, and wellness for individuals and groups to meet patient needs and treatment goals.
Provide direct services to patients approximately 80% of on‑duty hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
Observe and identify symptoms of mental illness related to age and disability needs; assess and evaluate patient needs; plan and implement therapeutic activities.
Document and report relevant data thoroughly and timely in patients’ medical records; possess basic computer skills for the Rehab Program, email, and report generation.
Collaborate with the treatment team, rehabilitation colleagues, and other disciplines to provide safe and therapeutic services; demonstrate effective and timely verbal and written communication.
Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary treatment team, department meetings, and hospital‑wide committees as assigned; provide coverage to other units of the hospital as needed.
Maintain treatment areas and equipment in a safe and therapeutic manner; ensure supplies meet patient and program needs; request purchase of equipment and supplies relevant to the program area.
Participate in educational activities relevant to patient needs.
Utilize basic computer skills to operate the Electronic Health Record system, communicate via email, and produce reports.
Staff Workplace Safety Accountabilities
Perform accountabilities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Communicate with supervisors about workplace safety issues such as ergonomics, body mechanics, environment, equipment, etc.
Report job injuries to supervisor immediately.
Attend training programs as appropriate.
Total Commitment to Quality Participate in continuous quality improvement activities; demonstrate commitment to customer service values in professional conduct and promote such values in the assigned work area.
