Full Time Therapist, (Night Shift)
to join our team.
Job Summary Perform diagnostic pulmonary function testing (PFT) including arterial blood gases and administration of respiratory care medications. Provide respiratory support and education to patients with abnormalities of cardiopulmonary function as needed.
Essential Functions
Performs Pulmonary Function Testing, including but not limited to: Spirometry, Lung volumes, Diffusion, Airway resistance, Respiratory pressure mechanics, Bronchodilator studies, Bronchial Provocation studies, Simple exercise studies, Simple shunt studies. Obtain accurate results through appropriate calibration, set up, interview, instruction, coaching, and report generation as described in test specific policies.
Administers aerosolized medication therapy or metered dose inhalers (MDI) as per MD orders and testing procedures. Medication is administered with zero errors in dosing and patient’s response is documented on PFT report or electronic medical record (EMR).
Obtains PRN arterial blood gases (ABG) on patients as per MD orders. ABGs are drawn as described in policy and brought to ABG lab for analysis within 20 minutes of collection.
Initiates, titrates and monitors oxygen therapy as per MD orders during testing and as needed for patient care. Oxygen is administered and monitored as per relevant policy.
Maintains a safe testing environment for patient and continually assesses patient’s response to testing or therapy. Knowledge and proficiency is demonstrated for assessing respiratory status.
Prepares necessary supplies and calibrates PFT equipment daily for accuracy and safety. Proper functioning and maintenance of equipment is confirmed through daily calibrations and logged in system.
Disassembles and decontaminates respiratory care equipment, reassembles and repackages for patient use. All re‑usable equipment is properly decontaminated and properly assembled for patient use.
Performs bi‑weekly inventory of disposable supplies. Accurate ordering information is reported, equipment par levels are maintained.
Monitors PFT gases cylinders for replacement. Assures PFT gases in adequate supply for continued testing, filled and ready for use.
Stocks respiratory care and PFT equipment in lab areas and other areas as determined by department supervisor. All areas have adequate par levels of stock at all times.
Submits data entry of patients testing. Prepares and presents data for analysis and interpretation by physician. Testing data submitted is complete and accurate.
Adheres to all infection control policy and safety policies relating to respiratory care. As per Infection control policy.
Provides patient education related to procedures and disease management for patient and family. Education is done and documented on report or in electronic medical record (EMR).
Participates in departmental quality improvement (QI) and assists in collecting data. Gathers data as needed and report issues related to QI to supervisor.
Conducts quality control for PFT systems. Syringe and bio‑control studies are completed monthly and logged in system.
Performs other related duties as required to meet division need. Willingly accepts other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
AS Preferred
GED Required
1-3 years 1 Year knowledge on Pulmonary Function Testing Required
Knowledge of the principles and procedures of pharmacology and ability to formulate medications. Zero error tolerance.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures and ability to sterilize surgical instruments. Complete sterilization of all instruments.
Pasteurmatic for the cleaning and disinfection of non-disposable respiratory care equipment.
Oxygen and air cylinders and regulators
Respiratory Therapists Required
Current NYS license for Respiratory Therapist. Required
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential; Required
Certified and or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT or RPFT) Preferred
BCLS by the American Heart Association. Required
