Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT) provides comprehensive respiratory care to a full lifespan patient population, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This role supports critically ill patients in high‑acuity environments and works collaboratively with multidisciplinary care teams to deliver safe, evidence‑based respiratory therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver respiratory care services to patients across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
Manage and monitor patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including mechanical ventilation and ECMO
Perform airway management, including tracheostomy care and suctioning
Conduct arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpret results to guide treatment
Assist with spontaneous breathing trials and ventilator weaning protocols
Support proning techniques for critically ill patients
Administer respiratory therapies, including nitrous oxide procedures
Implement and follow ventilator‑associated event (VAE/VAP) prevention protocols
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and critical care teams to optimize patient outcomes
Accurately document patient care in the EPIC electronic medical record
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Minimum
2 years
of respiratory therapy experience with full lifespan patients (pediatrics, adults, geriatrics)
Active Illinois Respiratory Therapy License
Active Certifications (AHA):
BLS
ACLS
PALS
NRP
Credential:
RRT required (CRT accepted)
EMR:
EPIC experience required
Technical Skills Required
Tracheostomy care
Nitrous oxide procedures
Proning techniques
ECMO support
Critical care experience
Ventilator‑associated event prevention
Spontaneous breathing trials
Arterial blood gas (ABG) draws
