Phlebotomist
Location: Daphne, AL
Responsibilities
Arranges daily activities based on urgency of sample requests.
Identifies consumers and their personal information using two identifiers.
Determines suitable venipuncture method based on age, health, etc.
Provides reassurance to consumers and helps them relax.
Identifies veins suitable for puncture.
Obtains blood using sterile technique with sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment.
Ensures optimal quality and quantity of samples.
Labels samples correctly and sends/delivers them for testing.
Adheres to all relevant health and safety standards while working.
Performs clerical duties such as making copies, faxing documents as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor (e.g., telehealth, staff relief).
Recognizes crisis situations and deescalates or resolves them.
Greets all consumers professionally and welcomingly.
Communicates effectively with all team members.
Supervision and Consultation
Seeks supervision and consultation as needed.
Accepts and employs suggestions for improvements.
Actively works to enhance skills.
Provides regular feedback to supervisor on issues or problems pertaining to work functions.
Courteous and Respectful Toward Consumers, Visitors, and Co‑workers
Treats consumers and co‑workers with care, dignity, and compassion.
Respects privacy and confidentiality of consumers and employees.
Assists consumers, visitors, and employees as needed.

Administrative Duties
Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Actively participates in AltaPointe committees as required.
Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Works cooperatively with other AltaPointe employees.
Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Current Phlebotomy certification to practice in Alabama.
Knowledge of adult and child phlebotomy specialties; to be attained within six (6) months of employment.
Train the Trainer certification preferred or documented experience in providing educational topics.
Knowledge of cultural diversity.
Knowledge of standard office equipment, including computers and programs (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
Knowledge of AHS policy and procedures as they apply to presentations.
Knowledge of regulatory standards of the organization’s monitoring agencies (JC, DMH, DHR, Medicaid, CMS).
Proven experience as a phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician.
Experience with effective puncture techniques.
Understanding of proper patient identification methods.
Knowledge of legal requirements regarding drawing blood, handling fluid samples, and use of relevant medical equipment and material.
Excellent communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to connect with various types of consumers and make them feel comfortable.
