Overview The Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRS-S) plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals recovering from substance use disorders and mental health issues. CRS’s use their lived experience and professional training to help participants navigate their recovery journey, access resources, and build sustainable support systems.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct support and guidance to individuals in recovery.

Assist participants in setting and achieving personalized recovery goals.

Help participants access community resources and advocate on their behalf.

Assist in navigating legal issues—including but not limited to criminal, civil, and family court obligations.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of participant interactions.

Provide immediate support during crises and develop strategies for managing high‑risk situations.

Facilitate support groups and serve as a positive role model.

Engage in community outreach and promote the CRS program.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

1–2 years of personal experience in recovery from substance use disorders or mental health issues.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Empathetic and non‑judgmental attitude.

Basic computer skills and experience with data entry preferred.

Current certification as a PA Certified Recovery Support Specialist or eligible for testing within one year of hire.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured personal transportation.

Ability to obtain ACT 33 & 34 clearances and additional clearances as required.

Work Conditions

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Work conducted in various settings, including offices, community centers, and participants’ homes.

Travel within the community is required.
