Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year‑round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50‑mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three‑hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary: Originate and check structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, material requisitions. Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction. Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues. Participate in technical meetings and perform intra‑discipline coordination.

Part‑Time Telework: This position is a full‑time role that offers part‑time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part‑time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Major Responsibilities:

Assists in the design, development,modification and evaluation of componentsand processes

Compiles, adjusts, and correlates data that willdevelop professional work knowledge andabilities through the application of standardCivil/Structural engineering techniques, proceduresand criteria utilizing relevant EngineeringDepartment Procedures (EDPs), designstandards and guides, Bechtel StandardApplication Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices(DRNs)

Provides direct support to other engineering disciplinesfor process/chemical related matters

Researches, designs, develops, and evaluatescomponents, products, and systems by using appliedprocess/chemical engineering principles

Coordinates development and presentation of materialwhen requested

Prepares or participates in preparation of construction drawings, project schedules, graphic presentations, civil drawings, steel and concrete calculations, and material requisitions

Checks manufacturers’ drawings and data for compliance with specification and design drawings

Designs or participates in design for minor structures and portions of buildings

Provides direct support to other engineeringdisciplines for Civil/Structural related matters

Assists in constructability reviews

Education and Experience Requirements: Level I

A bachelors degree in structural/civil engineering with less than 1 year of experience or 4‑5 years of relevant work experience

Level II

A bachelors degree in structural/civil engineering with 1‑2 years of experience or 5‑6 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Must be authorized to work and remain in the United Stateswithout Bechtel visa sponsorshipnow or in the future.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre‑employment drugscreen, physical (if located at the construction site), andbackground check which includes verification of employmentand education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge foraccess to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still beable to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)

Non‑U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Departmentof Energy as posing heightened security concerns—includingsensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries ofrisk, and other designated countries –are subject to additionalsecurity requirements that limit site access.
