Job Responsibilities
Set along the South Edisto River, Aiken State Park is a haven for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. A scenic 1.7‑mile canoe and kayak trail winds its way down the south fork of the Edisto River, attracting paddlers from across the region.
Aiken State Park has a history as notable as its natural beauty. During the Great Depression, the park was built by two Civilian Conservation Corps companies, one of which was an African‑American detachment of the CCC. Their work has stood the test of time and can still be seen in some of the remaining structures and interpretive signage.
Job Purpose and Duties Under general supervision, assist with overall operation and maintenance of a state park. Perform diversified duties governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assume the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher‑level employees. Perform duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, grounds keeping and landscaping activities. Assist with the administration and operation of a state park and assist park visitors with quality customer service.
Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles and motorized equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on facilities and equipment and keep maintenance records.
Maintain a safe work environment for employees and visitors.
Assist with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and plan long‑ and short‑term goals.
Perform and direct clean‑up and housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness and cleanliness of park grounds and facilities.
Ensure an adequate supply of janitorial and common maintenance supplies is on hand at all times.
Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
Practice and promote teamwork within the park and/or region, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represent the office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
Minimum and Additional Requirements Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials and substances used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Position works flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Comfortable with Windows, MS Office, and working with computer data entry. Will be required to clean and maintain cabins, campgrounds, and day‑use facilities.
Additional Requirements
Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; perform simple accounting and administrative duties.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to operate a variety of power tools.
Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
Additional Comments Actual Job Location: Aiken State Park Full‑time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
