RECREATION SPECIALIST (TR-DAY CAMPS)

Responsibilities
Under the immediate supervision of the Program Director, the Recreation Specialist (TR-Day Camps) is responsible for the facilitation of recreation and leisure activities in a day camp setting specifically designed for teens and young adults with disabilities.
Knowledge of
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Principles and methods for the planning and implementation of recreation and leisure activities for individuals and groups with disabilities.
Skills To
Disabilities and the effects on recreation and leisure skills.
Adjust actions in relation to others. Actively look for ways to help people.
Talk to participants to convey information effectively.
Ability To
Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
Listen and understand information and ideas presented through various types of communication. Must be 18 years of age or older.
Experience and Certifications
One year experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
Must be able to lift and/or transfer an individual with a disability independently or assisted.
Must be able to swim and be in the water to provide support to individuals with disabilities.
Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Certification must be acquired and maintained as part of employment.
Must have a valid Driver's License for those positions which require driving.
Environmental Conditions Office environment: exposure to computer screens; working closely with others.
Outdoor environments: exposure to extreme weather conditions; slippery/uneven surfaces; high noise levels.
Physical Conditions Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for lifting and/or transferring an individual with a disability independently or assisted; standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, general manual dexterity required.
