Investigative Specialist and Crime Scene Technician
The City of Eagan is hiring an Investigative Specialist and Crime Scene Technician to join the Investigations Unit. The role involves background checks, evidence collection, and collaboration with law enforcement and the community. The position works Monday – Friday00 am – 4:30 pm, with occasional weekend and evening hours.
Responsibilities
Act as the primary point of contact for inquiries to the Investigation Unit from law enforcement, prosecutors, chambers, and residents.
Identify, photograph, collect, preserve, and present physical evidence from crime scenes.
Assist detectives in identifying suspects and keeping victims informed of case status.
Coordinate with the Property/Evidence Technician to track evidence and ensure proper chain of custody.
Draft and execute search warrants and assist investigators with active investigations.
Utilize law‑enforcement databases, open‑source intelligence, and evidence‑tracking computer systems.
Participate in the criminal justice system by testifying in judicial proceedings when required.
Maintain up‑to‑date databases of cases, licenses, and forfeitures.
Represent the department in community outreach programs such as the Youth Leadership Academy.
Participate in on‑call rotations and perform duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in criminal law, procedures, computer operations/software, or office management.
Three (3) years of experience in an administrative, law‑enforcement, or investigative role.
One (1) year of customer service experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of forfeiture procedures and property/evidence tracking systems.
Experience using law‑enforcement records software.
Certified Crime Scene Investigator (International Association for Identification).
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
General mobility for standing, walking, and handling files and equipment.
