Overview

Under general supervision of the Recreation Program Manager, assisting with coordinating, conducting and leading youth programs including after-school, summer camp, spring and holiday camps, fun days and teen events at the Sanibel Recreation Center; and assisting with various recreational programs, aquatics programs, and activities. Performs other work as assigned. The following duties are normal for this position. Responsibilities

Assists with children’s activities, i.e. after-school, summer program, arts and crafts, swimming programs Assists with various programs and activities related to athletics, aquatics, sports, games, movies, crafts, music and other recreational activities. Assists with equipment and materials inventory necessary for programs and activities. Assists at various offsite locations for special events programming (e.g., luncheons, fundraisers, performances, picnics, holiday events, etc.) as needed. Provides information on programming events, dates and locations. Performs routine maintenance on equipment at assigned facilities as necessary. Performs clean-up duties at assigned facilities or events, as necessary. Reports accidents, injuries, incidents and issues to Supervisor, or Director in absence of supervisor. Assists with answering phones and greeting visitors, when needed. Assists with creation of and dissemination of program materials on behalf of the city. Assists with transporting staff, members, equipment, supplies, etc. to various recreation events. Maintain the physical stamina and mobility necessary to actively supervise and engage with children during recreation and youth programs, including standing for extended periods, moving quickly in response to safety needs, participating in age-appropriate activities, and lifting or repositioning equipment as required. Qualifications

High school diploma, GED or other certificate of competency; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in recreation programming; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire or promotion. American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Must meet all current Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements for working with youth and seniors. Ability to conduct one or more recreational activities. Ability to establish and maintain positive relations with other departments and employees. Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of public recreation programs. Knowledge of facility operation, maintenance, equipment and supplies. Skill in leading and/or instructing recreational activities and staff members. Ability to operate computers at an intermediate level or higher. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, general public and co-workers. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports. Knowledge of youth and adult recreation programming and ability to communicate effectively with constituents.
