Job Overview The Wisconsin Educational Opportunities Program (WEOP) within the Division of Access and Opportunity seeks an Education Specialist to provide direct services to program participants across several state and federal initiatives such as Early Identification Program, Precollege Scholarship Program, GEAR UP, Upward Bound, and others. The role involves academic advising, financial aid guidance, workshop facilitation, field‑trip organization, grant writing support, and case management.
Responsibilities
Provide academic, financial aid, and college/career advisement to economically disadvantaged, minority, and first‑generation youth and adults.
Develop and conduct workshops on college and career readiness, time‑management, ACT preparation, and the college application process.
Organize and chaperone field trips to college campuses, worksites, and cultural enrichment centers.
Collaborate with local colleges, school staff, and community organizations to increase access opportunities.
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of student tutoring/mentoring programs and maintain case‑management records.
Assist with grant writing, reporting, and stay current on federal and state legislation affecting WEOP programs.
Represent the program on advisory boards and collaborate with other educational programs serving minority and disadvantaged populations.
Job Details Remote Work:
Option to work 40% remote with secure high‑speed internet. In‑state travel 2–3 times per year and occasional out‑of‑state professional development travel.
Schedule:
20 hours/week (Tues‑Thurs in‑person service, administrative on Mon/Fri; occasional evenings/weekends).
Workplace:
Headquartered at 1270 Main Street, Green Bay, WI; initial reporting to the DPI Madison office.
Salary and Benefits Hourly rate $22.66–$28.84 (≈$23,566–$29,993 per year) for 0.50 FTE. One‑year probationary period applies. Limited benefits include paid time off and participation in optional retirement and college‑savings plans.
Qualifications Minimally qualified
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to develop or present workshops/information sessions on education topics.
Well‑qualified applicants
Recruiting students for programs and managing a caseload.
Grant writing and managing budget/reporting.
Experience with TRIO or GEAR UP programs.
Counseling underrepresented or minority students/parents on college and career readiness, financial aid, or application processes.
College degree is not required.
