Job Description
Optical Consultants are responsible for selling eyewear and accessories to patients, ensuring they receive the right‑size frames and properly prescribed lenses. They play a central role in delivering exceptional customer service and repeat business.
Responsibilities
Deliver an extraordinary experience to each patient and provide a complete understanding of our recommended products and services.
Develop a clientele through outstanding service and obtaining referrals.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of company/industry products, procedures, manufacturer rebates, and available lens and frame types.
Takes and returns patient calls, updating them on order status and resolving issues, escalating to the Store Manager as needed.
Retrieve patient charts and electronic health records.
Assist patients in selecting frames, lens type, and treatments (tints, coatings) based on specific needs and facial measurements.
Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.
Collect eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit.
Interpret prescriptions written by optometrist and ophthalmologist.
Create work orders for lab technicians, specifying lens information.
Follow up on all pending orders, verify time guidelines, inform patients of delays, and notify them when orders arrive.
Dispense glasses by inspecting product, checking fit, adjusting as necessary, and soliciting feedback.
Adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using tools such as pupilometers, lensometers, and frame warmers.
Communicate regularly with technicians, store managers, and front desk associates, providing patient information or order status updates.
Inspect final products for flaws, clean, and polish lenses with appropriate cloths and solvents.
Maintain cleanliness and visual appeal of frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom.
Restock retail boards with new merchandise.
Address product issues, analyze problems, and accurately answer patient questions regarding insurance, warranty, products, pricing, and promotions.
Collaborate with technicians, front desk associates, managers, and the optometrist.
Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, and safety glasses.
Requirements
High school diploma.
Minimum of one year of experience as an optician (strongly preferred).
Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills and a pleasant demeanor; sales experience preferred.
Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
Dependability and punctuality.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand for up to eight hours a day.
