Head Recreation Leader

Position Purpose/Summary This is a specialized, part‑time recreation position involving the planning and execution of a variety of programming opportunities, including staffing a community center, the open‑gym program, an evening recreation program, and a summer enrichment program.
Essential Functions
Plans and develops city‑wide recreational programs, including operating a community center and summer, open‑gym, and evening recreation programs.
Organizes and coordinates special recreational events on a city‑wide basis.
Organizes and instructs volunteer and neighborhood groups and individuals assisting in these programs.
Evaluates programs, makes recommendations, requisitions necessary equipment and supplies, schedules use of the community center, and prepares periodic activity reports.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of techniques, methods, materials, and equipment involved in conducting city‑wide recreation programs and special events of all types; scheduling of use of a community center and maintaining open space.
Considerable knowledge of rules and regulations governing the conduct of park facilities and equipment.
Some knowledge of first aid.
Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate a varied program of special events and seasonal programming.
Ability to enforce facility rules and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with recreational personnel and facility users.
Skill in performing and teaching recreational activities.
Education and Experience
Experience in planning, organizing, and supervising special event and seasonal programs preferred.
Work experience in recreation or a related field preferred.
