Riverside Health
We are looking for an experienced Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join Riverside Health in Newport News, Virginia. This position supports residents through therapeutic recreation services.
Overview Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee to develop and provide quality therapeutic recreation services for the residents. Maintains space, equipment, and supplies for the provision of recreation therapy services. Actively performs as a member of an interdisciplinary team and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide interventions in the geriatric population. Assists with management of volunteers, including recruitment and retention.
What You Will Do
Schedule and/or conduct quality therapeutic recreation activities that contribute to a vibrant quality of life for residents.
Recruit and retain volunteers to achieve additional recreation activities.
Oversee recreation areas and assigned departments/staff for resident services, ensuring proper maintenance, adequate equipment, and supplies in compliance with facility policies.
Collaborate with medical staff to meet the therapeutic needs of residents.
Perform administrative duties such as filing, updating records, charting, and organizing information on activity participation.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field (Preferred)
Experience
1 year of recreation program experience working with a geriatric population (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
Certified Automated External Defibrillator (AED) – American Heart Association/Red Cross within 30 days (Required)
First Aid – American Heart Association/Red Cross within 30 days (Required)
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) – National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (Preferred)
Valid driver’s license (Required)
