Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) at Stanford University, located in Stanford, California, is hiring for the position of
Executive Chef
for the Food Services division. This role is onsite and requires weekend and dinner service hours.
Job Purpose Oversee all culinary-related activities of food service operations and manage a campus region’s systematic performance, partnering with designated food service managers and chefs to meet revenue and expense goals.
Core Duties
Lead recipe and menu planning by creating theme menus and recipes that align with business optimization, quality, and customer service standards.
Promote health and safety standards by ensuring all operations deliver effective and complete food safety and hygiene programs and perform real‑time assessments.
Lead comprehensive business optimization by reviewing inventory practices, implementing changes, integrating quality and safety goals, maintaining equipment, forecasting replacements, and controlling labor and operating expenses through scheduling, budgeting, and purchasing decisions.
Lead and model effective employee and staff relations by evaluating, motivating, coaching, and providing corrective action for direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Accredited college program or degree, preferably in culinary arts, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Seven years of culinary management experience directing a large staff, multi‑meal plan location, or large‑volume cooking.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Execute creative menu development.
Apply business optimization principles and techniques across the organization.
Champion innovative ideas and concepts by utilizing cutting‑edge trends and maintaining current industry standards.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Demonstrate professional management and teamwork with co‑workers and supervisors.
Operate computer equipment and food and beverage computer systems.
Operate and utilize culinary production equipment and tools.
Understand and apply local, state, and federal health and sanitation laws.
Read, write, and speak English fluently.
Apply basic training techniques.
Certifications and Licenses
ServSafe CA Certification.
Physical Requirements
Constantly stand, walk, chop and mix.
Frequently twist, bend, stoop, squat, reach or work above shoulders, lift or carry objects up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
See food presentation and taste all types of food, including gluten, dairy, proteins, vegetables, and starches.
Working Conditions Scheduled days and work hours may vary based on operational need.

Compensation The expected pay range is $100,000 to $105,000 per annum.
