Victim/Witness Specialist
Big Horn County is seeking a Victim/Witness Specialist to provide support services to victims/witnesses as cases work through the legal system. Salary: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience, plus benefits. Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Must be willing to work varied hours based on victim/witness needs. On call 24/7 in rotation with Victim/Witness Program Director for victim and witness assistance. Duties: Establishes communications with victim/witness and/or their advocates; Advises victims/witnesses with information Locates witnesses required for effective prosecution Coordinates victim/witness appearances at hearings and trials and helps facilitate testimony Assists with case management Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years related work experience Bachelor's or associate's degree in paralegal, legal assistant, criminal justice, social work or related field preferred Direct experience working with crime victims/witnesses desired Some supervisory experience a plus. Must have ability to learn, retain, and understand Montana laws. Must respect and safeguard non-public confidential information and the privacy of victims/witnesses, County employees, and elected officials. Must be able to communicate clearly both written and spoken to victims/witnesses, law enforcement personnel, attorneys, other county employees, volunteers, and members of the public. Must be friendly, professional, tactful, and courteous at all times. Must possess a valid Montana Driver License and must be an insurable driver. Pre-Employment Testing: The successful applicant must undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
