ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing mechanical components—often molded plastic parts—for our next‑generation analytical instruments. You’ll work across the full development cycle, from early concept and prototyping to final production, ensuring robust, manufacturable, and user‑centered solutions.
You will be not only a team member, but part of a supportive community where you will be able to openly discuss any topic with your colleagues or managers over coffee. Our company emphasizes work‑life balance, offers flexible work time and occasional remote work options.
You’ll be part of a collaborative and cross‑functional team, working closely with colleagues in Business Development, Front‑End Innovation, UI/UX, Supply Chain, and Production. Your work will be anchored in FOSS’ strategic roadmap and contribute directly to our mission of sustainable innovation.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Take a high degree of ownership in developing instruments
Translate user needs and high‑level requirements into mechanical solutions
Create early prototypes and validate design concepts
Ensure manufacturability and robustness through tolerance analysis and design principles
Collaborate with toolmakers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to finalize production‑ready designs
Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and product quality
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical product development
Proven track record in finalizing parts for production
Strong proficiency in 3D/2D CAD design (preferred Autodesk Inventor)
Deep understanding of DfA, DfM, and DfS principles
Experience in designing plastic parts for products
Fluent in English
It’s a great plus if you have
Knowledge of injection molding and tooling design
Experience with FEA/CAE simulation tools
Familiarity with material selection and qualification (metals, glass, thermoplastics, elastomers)
Skilled in prototyping and additive manufacturing
Understanding of standards and regulations (ISO, CE, food/medical compliance)
