Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and power conditioning products. This role requires expertise in thermal management, structural integrity, and reliability engineering to ensure high-performance solutions for applications in various industries, including medical, semiconductor manufacturing, flight simulation, imaging, audio/video, and retail. The position will be part of a multi-disciplined engineering team in Waukegan, IL.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development
Lead mechanical design for UPS enclosures, cooling systems, and structural components.
Develop 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
Support prototype builds, testing, and validation
Thermal & Structural Analysis
Perform heat transfer analysis (conduction, convection, radiation) and airflow optimization.
Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, vibration, and fatigue.
Collaboration
Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical components.
Work closely with suppliers to develop prototypes and ensure component quality
Work with Manufacturing, Service and the RMA department to help track and resolve defect issues.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure designs meet industry standards (ASME, ANSI, UL, IEC).
Leadership
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Drive continuous improvement in design processes and best practices.
Drive innovation in product design and engineering processes by introducing new technologies, materials, and methodologies
Stay current with engineering trends and new technologies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
8+ years in mechanical design, preferably in power electronics, UPS systems, or energy storage solutions
Desired Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of thermal management and structural analysis
Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (SolidWorks, ANSYS, CFD)
Familiarity with manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, plastics)
Knowledge of vibration and shock testing for critical infrastructure products
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities
