Upholsterer – Job Description
Position Overview: The Upholsterer is responsible for repairing, restoring, and creating upholstered furniture and related products using fabrics, padding, springs, and hand tools. This role requires strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and the ability to follow design specifications to deliver high-quality finished products.
Key Responsibilities
Measure, cut, and install fabric, foam, batting, and other materials for furniture upholstery.
Install springs, webbing, frames, and padding as needed.
Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and customer specifications.
Operate staple and nail guns, and other upholstery hand tools.
Match patterns, textures, and materials to ensure professional alignment and appearance.
Assemble furniture pieces and perform quality checks to ensure craftsmanship standards.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Communicate with team members regarding design options, materials, and progress.
Qualifications
Previous upholstery experience required (residential, commercial, or automotive).
Knowledge of fabrics, foam types, springs, and upholstery techniques.
Operate hand tools safely.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Ability to lift furniture pieces and stand for long periods.
Attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Preferred Skills
Pattern making and fabric cutting.
Furniture restoration experience a plus.
Knowledge of different upholstery styles and methods.
