The Village of Carpentersville is now accepting applications for certified police officers (lateral positions) to join our team.

Salary Information $75,319-$115,011, depending on experience and qualifications. *Contract negotiations are ongoing. The current is set to expire at the end of 2025.*

Department Overview The Carpentersville Police Department provides competitive pay and benefits compared to similar-sized police departments. We have numerous growth and advancement opportunities. Carpentersville is located in Kane County, IL, with a population of 38,921. Patrol officers work an 8.5-hour day, 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 3 days off, rotating schedule. Shifts are bid annually by seniority.

Job Requirements Lateral transfers may be any previously full-time sworn officers who are currently certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, or in another state, provided the State of Illinois recognizes the certification.

Any lateral applicant who is certified as a part-time police officer from ILETSB may be approved for hire on condition that the applicant completes the necessary training to receive full-time police officer certification from ILETSB.

Qualifications Police Officers must have a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid driver’s license, be at least 21 years of age, and be legally authorized to work in the United States. Candidates will be required to pass an extensive background check.

Special Requirements The candidate must have completed the Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy and be certified as a Police Officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, or meet the requirements of the Out-of-State Reciprocity process. The candidate must have a working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, as well as basic law enforcement terminology, concepts, procedures, and techniques. The candidate must demonstrate excellent judgment, honesty, and integrity.

Salary and Special Assignments Salary: $75,3196 – $115,011 —with 5% education incentive available

Holiday Pay (annual): $2166 – $3176 with education incentive; $2066 – $3024 without education incentive

Sick Incentive (annual): $600

Longevity: $50/year of service, capped at 20 years

Benefit time: Annual accrued vacation, 8 paid holidays, 4 personal days, 1 floating holiday.

Specialty Assignments include: Detective, Special Operations Group, FBI Task Force, Warrant Service Team, K9 Handler, SWAT, Firearms Instructor, Mobile Field Force, Drone Operator, Major Accident / Crimes Investigation Task Force, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, School Resource Officer, and Evidence Technician.
