The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. Position Summary Required to work closely with the Tobacco Prevention Program Manager, other department staff, local/regional tobacco control alliances and relevant community partners within our service area to reduce tobacco use prevalence through prevention efforts. Participates in departmental planning for both State Tobacco Prevention Grant objectives and goal setting as needed. Expected to be familiar with capacity building efforts, policy development and tobacco taxation. Required to conduct background research on prevention efforts and inform/educate the general public or partners about findings. Plans, coordinates and organizes tobacco-related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region, conducts health promotion events independently. Particular focus is on education of adults and children through prevention-themed community events, media outreach, as well as outreach efforts given in classrooms and in conjunction with teachers, etc. This job requires village travel and formation of partnerships with village tribal councils and school administrators. Develops and maintains community partnerships and close collaborative working relationships with local and statewide organizations. Performs other duties as assigned. Believe in and promote Napartet and all corporate endeavors.

Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent years of experience in Tobacco prevention and cessation field. A public health degree preferred.

Two years experience in any of the following areas: research, community advocacy, policy development or tobacco taxation—preferably in a multi-cultural, rural health care setting.

Knowledge/experience in tobacco control/smoking cessation will be regarded highly.

License, Certification, Registration: Must be current if applicable.

Proven computer literacy, including email, MS Office tools, and relevant data analysis software.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking, strong collaborative and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of health issues, prevention education/counseling, social services, behavioral health and strategies for community-based intervention; a general knowledge of health assessment, prevention, promotion and intervention methods; public relations and written communication skills; strong collaborative and interpersonal skills; computer skills to include word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, appropriate posting and maintenance of social media sites as well as the ability to learn new and be proficient with varied software programs. Familiarity with social and economic conditions of Alaska Natives and history of tobacco use in the population will enhance the relevance of proposed solutions.

Proficiency in Yup’ik/Cup'ik will be a significant advantage.
