Mechanical Engineer / Estimator
We are looking for a motivated, customer‑oriented Mechanical Engineer / Estimator to join our expanding retrofit and mechanical replacement team. In this role, you will combine engineering expertise with strong client interaction skills to develop accurate estimates, design practical system solutions, and support our sales and execution teams. This position requires someone who can balance technical precision with real‑world constraints, continually improve estimating practices, and contribute to innovative, value‑driven project outcomes.
Responsibilities
Perform detailed ASHRAE RTS/CLTD load calculations, equipment sizing, and ductwork/piping system designs for retrofit and replacement applications
Prepare comprehensive estimates and proposals that align with budget requirements while supporting project win strategies
Conduct on‑site facility evaluations to collect field measurements, update existing conditions, and identify system upgrade opportunities
Complete mechanical takeoffs from engineered drawings for new and retrofit mechanical projects
Work closely with HVAC, Electrical, Controls, Plumbing teams, and external partners to develop cost‑effective and constructible solutions
Serve as a technical point of contact for clients—clarifying scope, presenting options, and resolving questions throughout the pre‑construction phase
Deliver competitive estimates, including material takeoffs and labor hour projections, that support sales and revenue targets
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in HVAC mechanical estimating
Demonstrated success scoping and pricing mechanical retrofit and replacement projects
Proficiency with heat load calculation software (Trane TRACE 3D), hydronic/air system design tools (HVAC Solution Pro), refrigerant piping sizing, and the creation of mechanical drawings (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio)
Strong quantitative and analytical abilities for accurate estimating, takeoffs, and pricing
Direct field experience, including site assessments, equipment evaluations, and troubleshooting
Working knowledge of HVAC analysis tools, energy codes, and engineering compliance requirements
Familiarity with mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes and industry standards
Salary $80,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr
