Overview CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Underwriter II. In this key role, you will support short- and long-term business strategies to drive profitable growth through sound underwriting and effective agency marketing. You’ll partner closely with your business development representative to expand high-quality business, while managing a larger or more complex book with higher technical authority. This role also provides training, coaching, and development to less experienced staff.

Job Responsibilities

Analyze commercial lines accounts to make sound decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls.

Adhere to individual authority levels.

Price business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines.

Balance effective pricing and risk selection that produces profit and growth while maintaining successful producer relations.

Communicate with agency personnel on underwriting issues including declinations, cancellations, exposure concerns and loss control survey results.

Present new and renewal proposals to agency personnel.

Maintain the highest level of customer service internally and externally.

Meet with agency personnel regularly to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships.

Collaborate with business development representative to hold the agency accountable for flow, hit ratio, new business and retention goals.

Act as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

Handle advanced level of reviews.

Educate agency staff on company products, services and underwriting philosophy.

Establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through communication and collaboration.

Collaborate with marketing representative on agency production goals.

Qualifications / Competencies

BS/BA college degree in business administration, finance or marketing.

Minimum of 10 years of commercial insurance experience.

Advanced knowledge and or experience with commercial lines underwriting.

Strong sales and marketing skills, including ability to qualify opportunities and close deals.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Analytical skills and attention to detail.

Professional certifications (optional): General Insurance program (INS), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
