Sr. EHS Specialist, Utilities and Maintenance The Sr. Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, Utilities & Maintenance, is responsible for driving, influencing, and achieving EHS process excellence, regulatory compliance, and overall risk reduction throughout Utility Operations and Maintenance within North America. This role also supports the development and execution of global electrical safety programs. This position reports to the Global Senior EHS Manager, Energy, and will ensure world-class electrical safety standards are met and sustained across operations. The role interfaces with regional senior leadership, front-line operational staff, contracting partners, and other related teams within Tesla to drive and support continuous improvement throughout Tesla’s design and deployment of large-scale energy storage systems.

Responsibilities

Partner with and advise Tesla Energy business leaders on EHS matters, collaborating with associates, EHS members, and contractors

Act as an Electrical Safety technical expert, overseeing legal compliance and safety in all phases of product deployment and service, focusing on design, installation, operation, and maintenance

Assist in developing and executing Tesla's Electrical Safety program for Utility and Commercial Operations and Maintenance, including both short and long-term plans

Identify operational gaps and drive innovative EHS solutions across teams, involving key stakeholders in both electrical and other EHS areas

Investigate EHS events, identify causes, and collaborate with management to implement preventative actions, fostering a learning culture

Conduct field observations to ensure compliance with EHS goals, document findings, and discuss improvement opportunities with relevant teams

Lead EHS meetings to communicate updates, share learnings from events, and discuss performance against company EHS goals; mentor teams on EHS principles to minimize risks

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in large-scale organizations or a relevant educational degree

Extensive experience in the electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries, with a preference for knowledge of large-scale lithium-ion battery storage

Practical experience in developing and implementing electrical safety programs according to NFPA70E standards

Ability to effectively execute role responsibilities in a fast-paced, growing global organization, using a 'first-principles' approach

Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging positively with all organizational levels, regulators, and third-party clients

Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, multitasking, and prioritizing skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team

Experience with North American EHS regulatory systems and policies, particularly in electrical installations and battery storage; proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite

Expected Compensation $66,880 - $136,800/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
