Position Summary
The Child Life Specialist I delivers quality patient care utilizing basic clinical skills and knowledge for patients under the ages of 21. Work is with inpatients and outpatients for whom hospital confinement and medical procedures can be threatening and result in social withdrawal, maladjusted behavior, and other psychosocial complications. Work involves striving to promote the optimum development of children, adolescents and families utilizing appropriate developmental approaches while minimizing the negative aspects of hospitalization.
Minimum Requirements Four year degree: BS/BA in Child Development, Child Life or related field required‑or higher.
Child Development/Child Life or related field. Child Life internship, coursework related to development of children and effects of hospitalization, preparation and coping techniques for hospitalized children and bereavement education, continuing education is required.
One year or less experience as a Volunteer, practicum work, internship attendance at related conferences, workshops, seminars such as Child Life Council, graduate assistantship, and entry‑level Child Life therapists.
