Human Resources Generalist

– UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Human Resources Generalist, positioned under the general direction of the Human Resources Manager, is responsible for managing recruitment and HR activities, including staff planning, advising supervisors and staff on human resources and employment policies and procedures, and overseeing recruitment processes and related HR activities. This role provides guidance and referral assistance related to recruitment and selection, classification and salary actions, onboarding/offboarding of employees, benefits, timesheet/payroll concerns, and other related HR matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Experience working in a highly-confidential environment, maintaining confidentiality of Human Resources activities and records, and exercising a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity.

Experience working in an HR environment interpreting and applying complex policies, procedures, labor agreements, regulations and laws.

Experience and knowledge of principles and practices of the full body of knowledge in Human Resources Management and working in a variety of HR functional areas including classification, recruitment and selection, compensation, documentation, and integrated leaves of absence.

Organizational and project management skills to plan, organize, and coordinate numerous and varied projects independently in a fast-paced, high-volume, frequently changing, deadline-driven environment.

Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to independently investigate situations, define problems and issues, identify solutions, and respond quickly and effectively with appropriate recommended actions.

Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, online, and via email, with a diverse group of staff, students, and clientele in a collaborative team environment.

Knowledge and skills to draft, train and advise hiring managers/supervisors regarding the development of position descriptions and interview questions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of UC Davis policies and procedures and collective bargaining contracts for staff, students and academic appointments.

Experience using online HR systems such as UCPath, Job Builder, TRS and Handshake.
